UNIQUE CHANGES TO THE AP CALCULUS AB EXAM IN 2020:
Some notes about the AP exam. (came from an AP Workshop for teachers)

Free Response section has 6 questions x 9 marks each = 54 marks
Multiple choice section has 45 questions x 1.2 marks each for 54 marks.
Exam total is 108 marks.
Note: In May 2018, 300,000 students wrote AP Calculus Exam. However, no one got a perfect score.
It is not a normal test situation. Some students get stressed out and leave mid-exam.
- don't have a "perfect score" strategy. Get as many marks as you can.
- for instance, for a "3", need to score 4 / 9 on each free response Q
for a "5", need to score 6 / 9 on each free response Q
For the written (free response) section:
- justifying answers important for marks. Show that you think and act like a mathematician.
- to use a theorem in free response, state the conditions necessary to use it. (don't have to prove them)
- spelling mistakes are not penalized on AP Exam. i.e. using dx instead of dt
How is my result (Score of 3, 4, 5) calculated?
It is a very complex calculation. Th reason for the difficulty of this really hard test is to be able to distinguish 3's and 4's. They ask similiar multiple choice questions, year after year, to compare. Also give this test to university students to see how A students do.
Last year,
70 points out of 108 = 5 score
~55 points out of 108 = 4 score
~40 points out of 108 = 3 score (which is a pass)
The above varies each year and is only shown when exam is released.
